Daniel and William Clarke of Tears in the Jungle fame will speak about their book and the mission to raise awareness about the plight of the endangered orang-utans in Borneo.

The boys, who featured in an ABC Australian Story episode this year, always wanted to visit the Shoalhaven.

Not only are they passionate about trying to save orang-utans they love to read.

“Daniel and I share a great passion for reading and we believe that the National Year of Reading is an excellent initiative for people to become involved in and discover their own love of reading,” William said.

“Our nanna always said to us, ‘Learn to read first and then you can read to learn’.

“We hope we can share our passion for reading with other kids so they can also develop a love of reading for themselves.”

William and Daniel self-published Tears in the Jungle to educate children about critically endangered orang-utans.

Despite Daniel having cerebral palsy and being mostly confined to a wheelchair, over the past five years these inspiring brothers have managed to:

• raise more than $600,000 to save the orang-utans in the wild;

• travel to Indonesia and trekked through the jungles of Borneo to see the orang-utan in the wild (wheelchair and all) with the financial support of an anonymous sponsor;

• self-publish Tears in the Jungle;

• sponsor 7000 acres of jungle from proceeds from the sale of their book;

• inspire a country by featuring on ABC’s Australian Story in March this year; and

• have spoken at schools, conferences, festivals and business functions inspiring children and adults alike with their story and amazing achievements.
