Attendances at the Berry Show were down on last year.
The popular rodeo event was cancelled due to concerns for riders’ safety and the welfare of the animals.
Pony club events set down for Friday were also called off.
Local State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers have been kept busy since Thursday as heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the area.
From 7.20am Thursday morning to Sunday afternoon volunteers responded to over 30 calls for assistance.
Most of the calls related to leaking roofs after water got into houses from blocked gutters.
Yesterday four trees came down but only caused minor damage to property.
Heavy rain also caused the closure of several roads in the region. One lane of Nowra Road at Barrengarry was blocked by a mudslide, Main Road 92 was closed to all but four-wheel-drive vehicles between Nowra and Nerriga and Macquarie Pass was also blocked and will be closed today for repairs.
Localised flooding also occurred in and around Nowra.
As a safety precaution, the Sydney Catchment Authority decided on Friday to close Bendeela camping ground in Kangaroo Valley as the Kangaroo River began to rise.
Several local sporting fixtures were washed out, including all first and second grade cricket matches set for turf pitches, the junior cricket round set down for Saturday and yesterday’s Sportspower Twenty20 finals.
The Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage surf competition at Broulee was also postponed and flooded golf courses forced the cancellation of several competitions.
The falls were heavy in places with 60.4 mm (Friday) and 29.4 mm on Saturday in Sanctuary Point and 64.4 mm over the same period at the Nowra Treatment works.
Up to 3pm yesterday Nowra had recorded 1 mm and Berry 2.2 mm.
The heavy recent could see Nowra top its monthly average.
The monthly average for Nowra is 104.6 mm and already this month 88.4 mil has been recorded.
