Backflip on fireworks

SHOALHAVEN City Council will support New Year’s Eve fireworks in locations throughout the region, despite a rescission motion tabled at last week’s council meeting.

Council had decided to donate $30,000 to community groups to help fund fireworks on the night of December 31.

Of that, $10,000 was to help fund fireworks at the Archer Raceway, $10,000 for Ulladulla, $5000 for Huskisson and $5000 for Berry.

However, the funding was thrown into doubt when Crs John Fergusson, Amanda Findley and Nigel Soames signed a rescission motion at the previous council meeting.

However, when it came to the debate on Tuesday night Crs Fergusson and Findley asked to remove their names from the motion, meaning it did not have sufficient support to be introduced.

This left the fireworks funding as a confirmed council decision.
