The community organisation is gearing up to stage a protest outside Parliament House in Sydney on July 21 in a last ditch effort to halt the development.
ShUT campaign organiser John Levett, who will lead the rally, hopes to take three busloads of protesters from the Shoalhaven to the steps of Parliament House.
“We are hoping to lift the profile of our campaign to a state level, bring focus to the anomalies in planning laws and seek a meeting with the DECCW [Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water].
“We are hoping to have a couple of hundred people all dressed in red.”
Community hopes of stopping the “toxic tip” took a major dive last month when the DECCW failed to find sufficient environmental concerns to stop it going ahead.
Now in the hands of the Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP), Mr Levett said it was time for the community to get vocal.
“Pending the panel hearing on August 12, we haven’t got a lot of time,” he said.
“If the people of the Shoalhaven don’t want this thing on their doorstep they have to get their feelings known about this.
“This could be something that could cause enormous destruction to an area which relies on its clean, green image for tourism.”
Tickets can be purchased for $15 from the Tomerong General Store, Aloha Caravan Park in St Georges Basin and Shoal Bus in Bomaderry. For more information contact Franca on 4443 4211 or 0400 888 434.
