BRITTANY Kennedy’s got the look.
At just 16 the Nowra resident qualified in the top 10 finalists at the Miss Country Girl Australia finals held in Sydney last week.
It was a big step for a girl whose talent was spotted while taking out the garbage for Boost Juice.
Held on the Bella Vista cruise ship, the final was a qualifier for the Miss Universe Australian preliminary competition.
Despite being ineligible to win the competition, due to age restrictions, Brittany was stunned to hear her name in the top 10 along with fellow Miss Nowra winner Kara-Lee Taylor.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all,” she said.
“When I walked into the studio and saw all these amazing and tall girls I didn’t think I had a chance.”
Brittany has had previous modelling experience, posing for Dolly and Good Health magazines, but this competition was the teen’s first real catwalk experience.
It was a lot more challenging then the normal catwalk, having to work with a rocking boat and a runway covered in slippery rose petals.
“It was really hard,” the Nowra High School student explained.
“A few girls slipped over on the rose petals and were warning the rest of us, but I managed to stay on my feet.”
There were three categories for the judges to adjudicate, including swimwear, formal wear and a Lady Gaga theme.
Those who made the top 10 then had to draw out a random question and present their answer to the judges.
“My question was, ‘What is your dream job and why?’
“I said originally I wanted to be a doctor until I found out what the required UAI was.
“Everyone laughed, which was good, I was the only one to get a laugh.
“Then I said I wanted to get into the fashion industry, as a fashion photographer or something.”
Brittany hopes to continue modelling for fun but wants to turn her focus to study in the meantime.
